Wish List Wednesday: The Maxi Dress

Summer is here obviously in full force. I spend most of my days trying to dress for work in a way that a) Covers all of my tattoos :( b) Looks business casual and c) Keeps me cool once I leave the confines of my air conditioned work place. Those are a lot of situations to compete with. I'm either freezing at work or sweating like crazy on the drive home.

My new obsession: Maxi Dresses and Skirts

You can dress them up with a blazer or sweater for work. Add some funky jewelry and you can't go wrong walking the halls of your place of work. Once you clock out, you can easily peel the sweater or blazer off and head to a BBQ on a back porch and drink a beer. It's a win win.

I'm on a hunt currently to all of the thrift stores around town for maxi skirts and dresses. I need them cheap because frankly we aren't made of money. The search continues!

Goals for July

June. Good ol' June. I didn't accomplish nearly half of my goals for that month. Life was busy. Crazy busy. It was full of shows and anniversary celebrations. I was sick for half of it because I've been breathing in smoke from all of the fires in Colorado. I still have a pesky cough that just doesn't want to go away. I was a bad blogger. I did drink a lot of tea and read some, but that was about it.

But, alas, here we find ourselves in July! The fourth of July is upon us. Usually once that hits, the summer flies by in the blink of an eye and I beginning preparing for fall (My favorite season of all!) I'm ready for fall already. Cooler weather is probably my main desire. That and boots, scarves, lattes, and preparing for the holidays. My favorite. I even want to try and start shopping for Christmas now. (Yes, I am striving to be one of those crazies.)

Until that time though, I will continue to sweat like a crazy women in our un-airconditioned home and pray that it cools down long enough for us to sit in our house for a while every evening. I need some good BBQ's on the back porch. Some wine. A good book. July is promising.

Work through this book with my man. We need it.

Find a killer sangria recipe and enjoy it on our back porch.

I've been brainstorming meal planning for the two us. I would like to expand upon that endeavor. Dinners together sound wonderful.

Write my new 27 before 27 list. My birthday will be here before I know it.

Go thrifting. I'm on the hunt for some maxi dresses/skirts.

Anniversary Week

Last week, we celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary. I cannot believe how quickly time has flown by already. 3 years. 3 years! And many more to come. Each year is even more exciting than the last.

The hubby took the whole week off and I joined him on Wednesday. It was very needed. We've been running at full speed for so long. We didn't have any gigs to play, any photos to take, anything that would take over our schedule like it usually does. We had a few days of freedom.

We started the time off by going to Denver to see one of my dear friends and his band, 1776, open for the Dandy Warhols. It was so good. It had been a few years since I had seen him and it was very good to be able to catch up like old times. Chilling back stage wasn't too shabby either.

Later on in the week, Ryan's parents took us all out to dinner. I finally got the mojito I had been thinking about for a week or so.

Friday night we stayed at the Armstrong Hotel in Fort Collins. It was really nice to just be able to stay in town but get out of the house for a night. The bathtub was lovely. There was air conditioning (hallelujah!) and we just got to finally relax. We went out for margaritas and mexican food, walked around Old Town, went to the drum shop, bought some new vinyl, and ended up at Perkins late that night for some pie. The next morning we went out to breakfast for one last hurrah for this year's celebration.

Happy Anniversary, Love.

Now it's back to reality for this week. Lots of band practices, 2 gigs, a maternity photo shoot, and working the entire time. The vacation was so wonderful while it lasted.

Goals for June

We find ourselves in another new month already. Time goes much faster once you hit adulthood. Everyday, you're made to be an adult, pay your bills, wash your dishes, and bring home your paycheck. I find more and more everyday how important it is to just take some time and rest. To breathe. Truthfully, I'm absolutely horrible at that and hate feeling like I'm wasting time. But, as I get older, I find that taking those times to rest isn't in itself wasting time. Those sabbaths allow for more time in the grand scheme of things. When one is at the end of their rope and exhausted, nothing of worth can really get done. I must remember that.

As I look back on May and the goals I presented, I am filled with satisfaction. It was a good month. I even survived my garage sale. Hallelujah. My goals were:

Continue the Great Garage Sale preparation. I've only made a small dent in a big, stuff-we-don't-really-need-anymore world.
A success. I even have any empty room to prove it. Blank walls envelope my house. Now I can make them new.

Go to the Farmer's Market.

Schedule a massage. Even for next month. I need it.
Scheduled for the end of June. Yes, please.

Plan a getaway for our anniversary in June.
The hotel is booked and it's only a little over a week away!

Do an outfit post!! No more procrastination.

Now onto June......
